Demand and Challenge


Under the requirements of national environmental protection policies, enterprises actively promote the impermeable transformation of underground tanks in petrol stations. However, there are some petrol stations that are unable to carry out double-layer tank replacement or increase impermeable pools, for example:



CBD petrol stations in urban areas;


Newly-built petrol stations (tanks need to be rebuilt according to the impermeability requirements);


Petrol stations with tanks buried under canopies and driveways;


Special geological or environmental risk petrol stations;


These petrol stations have special locations, high sales volume, and are unable to carry out large-volume civil construction to replace tanks. If they are shut down for renovation and re-tanking, there are problems such as high renovation costs, wasted investment, and high safety risks.


As the historical capital of China, Beijing has always been at the forefront of environmental protection. As early as before the promulgation of the "Ten Articles on Water", Beijing had already started the process of upgrading the buried tanks of petrol stations, but the urban construction of Beijing has gone through a long process, during which there are very many legacy problems due to the limitations of the environment and the times.


Beijing Xuanwumen Petrol Station, located directly above Subway Line 2, has the main Xuanwumen East Street parallel to it on its north side; the underground vent (with a floor area of about 50 square meters, a Type III protected building) is about 12 meters to the west; the green belt is on the east side of the petrol station; a residential building (a Type II protected building) is about 25 meters to the south, separated from the auxiliary road; the station area has an entrance to the north and south of the western end of the station area, and an exit and an exit to the north and south of the eastern end of the station area. There is a petrol station entrance at the west end of the station area from north to south, and an exit at the east end of the station area from north to south, which is connected to the main and auxiliary roads of Xuanwumen East Street. Not only is the surrounding terrain complex, but with just three 30-meter tanks, the station sells more than 10,000 tonnes of fuel and has a busy daily business.

The Solution

With the Phoenix system, single-layer steel buried tanks at petrol stations can be upgraded to double-layer tanks with a complete double-layer all-composite structure without moving the existing buried tanks or damaging the surrounding area and structures. The upgraded tanks have a complete intermediate layer structure and are fitted as standard with the industry's leading liquid media leakage detection system, which provides 360° active leakage detection without dead angle.

The details are all at a glance, providing a theoretical basis for the preliminary construction and programme development of the station's Phoenix system, and helping it to complete the tank nirvana. For example, there are various support structures in the tanks, and the Phoenix system is able to deal with them by various means, such as covering or reconstructing, to provide solutions.
